Thursday it was announced that Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Annie Fernandez won the 2022 Tennis Canada men’s and women’s singles players of the year award.
This is not the first time they won these awards. Felix also secured the Tennis Canada men’s singles player award last year while Fernandez received the women’s singles player of the year award in 2020 & 2021.
“We would like to offer our congratulations to all of this year’s recipients of the Tennis Canada Excellence Awards,” said Michael Downey, President, and CEO of Tennis Canada.
“Felix is a well-deserving recipient in the men’s category”, says Downey
Felix Auger-Aliassme had a superb season in 2022 as he reached his career-high ranking of No.6. During a remarkable year, the 22-year-old also captured four singles titles and assisted his teams to crown at ATP Cup, Laver Cup, and Davis Cup.

On the flip side, Leylah Fernadez capped off her 2022 season with a 21-15 win-loss record though she defended her title at the Monterrey Open and made her French Open quarterfinal debut after prevailing over former World No.4 Belinda Bencic, and American Amanda Anisimova. Notably, the 20-year-old also helped Team Canada to reach the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
On the women’s side, Leylah has continued to showcase her skills and prove that she is one of the top talents on the WTA Tour.
